25th May 2009

Maponya Mall, Soweto

Our newly elected President Jacob Zuma embarked on a tour of Soweto on the 23rd of May 2009. He arrived to an atmosphere of excitement and expectation, which blanketed Maponya Mall.

He was accompanied by a flank of South African leaders our very own Dr. Richard Maponya, The Mayor Mr. Amos Masondo, the Premier Nomvula Nonkonyane, the Deputy minister of Police Mr. Fikile Mbalula.

The president made a short speech emphasising that this was an honour to visit Maponya Mall and to thank the masses for voting for the ANC. In addition, this tour was to instil a culture of reporting back to the masses to bridge the gap between people and the presidency.

He added that parliament will be meeting to deliver the manifesto that the people had voted for. He further promised to return to Soweto and personally deliver the report back as part of the culture of accountability.

Palesa Mzizi Marketing Manager of Maponya Mall added "We are privileged to host a man of his stature, it emphasises all the reasons why we as a people are where we are, an iconic man in a truly iconic landmark. We look forward to his next visit."
